PFAS analysis with interpretation of results
There are over 10,000 identified substances in the PFAS group. IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute helps you find out which analysis you need.
Due to the large number of PFASs – with their different properties, sizes, PFAS precursors and degradation products – the analysis of PFASs is a major challenge.
Detection limits can vary between different labs, and the interpretation of results can be difficult. IVL has been analyzing PFASs since 2008 and has a good understanding of how to interpret the analytical results. We offer analysis packages with useful results and defined limit values, according to the directives that apply to different industries.
We have instruments for mass spectrometry, i.e. LC-MS/MS. The MS/MS analysis can also be performed with a combination of low-resolution mass filters and high-resolution mass spectrometry, for example with orbitrap or time-of-flight mass spectrometers (Q-Exactive orbitrap or Q-TOF). We also have instruments for combustion ion chromatography (CIC). The combustion instrument is an Automatic Quick Furnace system from Mitsubishi AQF-2100 AQF-2100H. The ion chromatography instrument is the Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-6000 Capillary HPIC System.
Our PFAS labs are located in both Gothenburg and Stockholm.
Hire IVL to:
- Target screening of specific PFASs – to compare what is reasonable and acceptable, relative to limit values
- Broad spectrum analysis such as TOP (total oxidizable precursors) – to identify which PFAS a sample contains, and any precursors
- TOF, TF, EOF – to check if and what type of fluorine is present in the samples
- PFAS analysis in water, sludge, soil, biota and various produced materials
- Recommended analysis packages, based on needs and matrix
- Recommended sampling scheme and sampling points
