The information in the CSI database comes from
ship-owners who submit details of their fleet to the Index.
They have completed a comprehensive questionnaire
covering the relevant environmental parameters.

Certificates will be issued to vessels that have been verified by a third party. Ship-owners can approach the following verification companies that have been accredited by the Clean Shipping Index; DNV GL, Bureau Veritas, Class NK, Lloyds Register, Korean Register, Rina Services, Verifavia, MRVControl and Dromon Bureau of Shipping.

The certificate is valid for at maximum of 3 years, combinable with regular class inspection surveys. Emissions of CO2, SOx and Particulate Matter need to be verified annually by an office audit.

Clean Shipping Index charges an administrative fee of €500 for issuing the certificate when the full audit has been performed. This is a fixed fee and will be invoiced to the classification company. Shipping companies that are members of Clean Shipping Index can issue 10 certificates per year without the admin fee.
